Quoted from Wikipedia:
"During the final stage of World War II, the United States detonated two nuclear weapons over the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki on August 6 and 9, 1945, respectively. The United States dropped the bombs after obtaining the consent of the United Kingdom, as required by the Quebec Agreement. The two bombings killed at least 129,000 people, most of whom were civilians. They remain the only use of nuclear weapons in the history of warfare."
My grandfather was on part of the United States soldiers that landed to provide assistance to Japan after the bomb detonations. These photos were captured by him or someone with him during this part of his tour of duty.
I have had these photos for a while and have decided that they need to be shared. The purpose of sharing them is not to debate whether or not this should have happened but to share what did happen in a way that is more powerful than any word could portray.
